In
addition, there are several interesting outbuildings, including:
- a stone springhouse, where the early settlers
took advantage of the cold water rising to the surface to keep
their dairy products cool. They arranged the stone floor to divert
the water around the inside walls of the springhouse, and would
keep crockery filled with milk, butter, etc. in the cold spring.
There was at one time a second floor where they would churn the
butter and store some vegetables.
- a stone smokehouse, where meats would be cured
for storage over the winter. Two small windows were added at some
time in the past, and this building is now serving a very useful
purpose as a toolshed
(and a favorite backdrop for our guests'
photo opportunities).
- a small red barn with loft
- a large white corn crib barn.
